Molecular Chirality Award
Molecular Chirality Award 2024 will be awarded to Professor Katsuhiro Maeda (Kanazawa University)
2024 Molecular Chirality Award is sponsored by JASCO Co.
Professor Maeda’s Award Lecture will be delivered on the third day of the symposium, Aug. 28 (Wed), 2024 in the award ceremony.
Professor Katsuhiro MAEDA
Katsuhiro Maeda obtained his PhD from Nagoya University in 1998 under the supervision of Prof. Yoshio Okamoto, where he studied the synthesis and structures of helical polyisocyanates. He joined Prof. Eiji Yashima’s group at Nagoya University as an Assistant Professor in 1998 and developed various stimuli-responsive helical polymers. After joining to the group of Prof. Tim Swager as a visiting scientist at MIT, he moved to Kanazawa University in 2018 as an Associate Professor and was promoted to a full Professor in 2015. He received Thomson Scientific Research Front Award in 2012. Since 2017, he has been a PI in the supramolecular chemistry group of the Kanazawa University WPI-NanoLSI project. He has been engaged in synthesis and application of functional helical polymers. Especially, he has developed the first switchable chiral stationary phase for HPLC and chiral sensors capable of detecting chirality of chiral compounds by visible color change by taking advantage of dynamic and static properties of helical polymers.
Overview of Molecular Chirality Award
Molecular Chirality Award is instituted by the Molecular Chirality Research Organization (MCRO), which is a Japanese organization for the research of chirality, to honor distinguished scientists who has made great contribution to the research of chirality. The bronze statue (hand in art) is presented at every domestic Symposium on Molecular Chirality since 1999.
